Charles Murphy

Bio_Image-Charles_MurphyTraverse City Artist, Charles Murphy has taught painting classes and workshops since 1975. He is a 1974 graduate of Minnesota State University finishing magna cum laude with a BFA in studio arts. Arts organizations across Michigan including the Ann Arbor Arts Association, the Holland Area Arts Council, the Glen Arbor Arts Association, the Crooked Tree Arts Center, Southwest Michigan Watercolor Society, Art Center Traverse City, the Toledo Artists Club, and the Mid-Michigan Artists Guild have all endorsed Mr. Murphy’s workshops as “excellent”. In 2003 the Traverse Area Arts Council named him “Art Educator of the Year” and demand for his teaching classes continue to grow.

Working with over 40 galleries in his career his artwork has found its way into innumerable private and public collections worldwide including: Kraft, General Motors, Prudential, Mead Corporation, John Hancock, International Harvestor and U.S. Gypsum.

Charles has exhibited with the American Watercolor Society and International Society of Experimental Artists. His art and illustration has graced well-known books, CD covers, calendars, wine labels, corporate reports and college text book covers.
